Profiles

Mark Hyma, EA (Owner) | President

Mark is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.  He holds a masters
degree in taxation (MST) and a bachelors degree in business administration, both from National University. He is enrolled to practice before the IRS (EA), and is an Accredited Tax Advisor (ATA).”  

Mark’s duties include tax preparation and daily oversight of company policies, practices and procedures.

Mark is the principal owner of PFS and has 24 years experience in the tax and financial services industry.

Brian Grigg, CPA-PFS (Owner) | Vice-President, Insurance Broker, QuickBooks ProAdvisor

Brian merged with PFSSD in January 2011. He is a 10 year veteran of the U.S. Navy serving overseas in Germany, aboard the USS Spruance (DD 963), and in San Diego. His previous tax experience includes being a sole-practitioner for two years as well as working for both large and small tax firms. He holds a bachelors in accountancy, the series 7 and 66 licenses, and the life/health/property/casualty insurance licenses. He was awarded the Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) designation; this designation is awarded to CPAs that have successfully demonstrated an advanced proficiency in wealth advisory. 

Brian's duties include co-managing the tax department, managing the accounting, payroll, and insurance departments.

As a property and casualty insurance agent, Brian helps clients hedge against the risk of catastrophic loss. He writes both personal and commercial insurance. In addition, he writes health, dental, vision, and supplemental insurance. 

Brian is the second majority owner of PFS of San Diego.

Kyle Hyma (Owner) | Operations Manager, Tax Preparer 

Kyle Hyma is a 2007 graduate of San Diego State University with a bachelors degree in business management.  He also holds an associate degree in business administration.

Kyle’s duties include tax preparation and maintaining daily operations of the company.

Linda Huybers, EA | Senior Tax and Accounting Staff

Linda Huybers has specialized in taxation since 1997.  In 2003 she became enrolled to practice before Internal Revenue Service by earning the Enrolled Agent designation.  Linda has worked in the accounting field for 30 years and specializes in bookkeeping for small to medium sized businesses.  She helps clients with their accounting needs, federal and state tax filings, Trust and Estate tax returns and trust accounting.

Carol Sawaya, EA | Senior Tax and Accounting Staff

Carol joined Professional Financial Services in 2001 as a bookkeeper.  She received an associates degree in finance and accounting and has now passed the Enrolled Agent exam. 

Carol’s primary tasks include tax preparation, trust accounting, payroll processing, and consulting clients. 

When she is not at the office, Carol can be found cycling and hiking local trails in San Diego County.

Greg Nelson | Tax Preparer 

Greg Nelson earned his degree in finance from The University of Northern Colorado. He has 25 years experience helping corporations manage cash flow and investments.

Greg’s duties include tax preparation and account servicing.

Greg joined PFS in November, 2006 and is a member of CTEC.

Sanford (Sandy) Rosenthal, EA | Tax Consultant

After graduating with a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from Georgia Tech, Sandy served in the U.S. Army Intelligence.  He was then an engineering manager on a number of missile programs.  After receiving an MBA from the University of Southern California, he transitioned to the financial industry.  He is an EA, CFP, CSA, ATA, PE, and a Fellow of the National Tax Practice Institute.

Sandy entered semi-retirement in 2007 after managing for over 30 years.  He remains active in income tax, estate tax, and trust tax preparation, and as an independent trustee.

Esther Pretorius | Tax and Accounting Staff

Esther joined the firm in September 2011. She is a graduate of San Diego State University. She holds a bachelors in accountancy. She is currently a candidate for the CPA license and is a member of CTEC.

Lesley Dumais | Tax and Accounting Staff

Lesley joined the firm in January 2010. She is an experienced tax preparer and staff accountant. Her previous experience includes bookkeeping for large companies as well running her own bookkeeping service of 10 years. She is certified in QuickBooks, Word, as well as Excel, and is a member of CTEC.

Lennice Baker| Insurance Department Manager, Administrative Assistant to Brian Grigg, CPA-PFS

Lennice joined the firm in September 2012. She is an experienced insurance agent. She has worked at both large and small insurance houses and was a sole-practitioner for several years.

Sondra Harbert | Administration Assistant

Sondra holds an AA degree from San Diego City College. 

Sondra has weaved a 25 year history with PFS thru it’s various components - the longest of any of our team members.   Her primary duties include meeting and greeting clients, answering phones, scheduling appointments, collating tax returns, keeping track of all filing deadlines and due dates, and various other front office tasks.
